First Light Early Education Center

Active learning is at the center of the HighScope Curriculum.  It is the foundation where young children gain knowledge through their natural play and interactions with the environment, events, and other people.

We focus on children’s strengths.
Play-based, child-centered, and grounded in research, the HighScope Curriculum features active learning at its core.  In a HighScope classroom, children are guided to explore, interact, and exercise their creative imagination through purposeful play.  Well-prepared teachers support and extend each child’s learning based on their developmental levels, so children enter school ready and eager to learn.

Infant and Toddlers (First Light is providing coaching/mentoring to Wyo Kidz Director now serving this age group in the First Light building)
By using the clearly defined ten practices of the HighScope® Infant-Toddler Curriculum©, caregivers develop close, supportive relationships with the children in their care. Caregivers will support children's natural desire to be active learners by consciously considering their social and emotional, physical, cognitive and sociolinguistic needs. Learning and development are to be anchored by long-term, trusting relationships with caregivers who support the children as they play. Adults scaffold further learning as they interact with children throughout the day.

HighScope's active participatory learning approach allows young children to find out how the world works through their own direct experience with people, objects, events and ideas. The HighScope Preschool Curriculum© is built around 58 developmental milestones in eight curriculum content areas that are closely aligned with Wyoming Early Childhood Readiness Standards and correlates with the guidelines developed by NAEYC.

Enrichment Activities
First Light will enrich each child's learning with physical fitness, art/music/intro to foreign language appreciation activities and field trips for Pre Kinder (Children under 4 may require a parent to attend if requested).

NAEYC Accredidation (First Light is the only NAEYC accredited center in Sheridan, WY)
